Flower Power


Today students practiced creating a flower offspring from two different types of flowers. They crossed two totally different flowers and designed an offspring with traits from both parents. They had to identify the dominant and recessive traits that were passed on. They also had to identify co-dominant and incomplete dominant traits. They created a poster showing the offspring flower and a summary of its description.

Genetic Disorder Project


Today students continued to work on their Genetic Disorder Project. They continued reading about their selected Genetic Disorder and wrote a summary about what they read. Next, students started answering specific questions about their disorder that will be on their final project. The project is due February 11th. They can choose to either create a power point, PSA, story, brochure, or a essay about their disorder.

Genetic Disorders


Today students took a quiz on unit D Genetics. Students then each received a information on a Genetic Disorder. They began taking notes about the disorder and wrote down questions and predictions on what they think they are going to learn. Students will be creating either a powerpoint, story, PSA, or brochure on their genetic disorder.

Activity 56: Marfan Syndrome


Today students will investigate a genetic disorder called Marfan Syndrome. They will watch a movie about Marfan and will answer analysis questions about the disorder. We will also discuss the pros and cons of genetic testing. They will be starting their own research project on Friday about a specific genetic disorder.

Activity #55 Plants Have Genes Too!


Today students investigated leaf color inherited from two green leaf parents. They planted seeds and will water them for a week. They predicted which colors the offspring will be and once they grow will analyze their results. Students will get progress reports today and are due back on Friday with a parent signature. We also finished the traits graph from yesterday's activity~

Activity #54: Investigating Human Traits


Today students investigated six different human characteristics including eye color, height, arm span, PTC tasting, tongue rolling, and finger crossing. They recorded their results and analyzed how much variation was in the class by creating a graph with the traits on it.

Current Science Magazine


Today students are reading the current science magazine. They are reading different articles about events that are happening around the world. As they read the magazine, student will answer analysis questions as they read. They will also analyze a graph while reading about drug problems. The worksheet is due at the end of class
